Angels & Demons

Angels & Demons

Yes we did, Mr. Langdon.

I just came back from the movies and watched Angel & Demons. The “sequel” of the Da Vinci Code where it takes Dr. Robert Langdon back to Europe (this time to Vatican City) and decipher what the Illuminati want with the church and why are they going to try and destroy it.

Why do I call it a “sequel”? Well because is not really a sequel. You don’t have to watch The Da Vinci Code to enjoy this movie.

However, a bit of a warning. To those who read the book, you must watch this movie with an open mind and away from the writings of the book. If we haven’t learned anything from movies based on novels, then we really need to check our brains. You should know that the movies based on books are never alike and true to the book. There are some who try to stay true but you see small changes here and there. Of course, there are others who just completely go away from the book itself (ie. Beowulf).

I haven’t read the books, so I will not be judging the movie because of the books, however from what the people that have read the book have told me while I was in the theater, they did managed to say that even though it doesn’t stay true to the book, it was still a very enjoyable movie.

Enjoyable it was! I mean, even the Vatican approved of this movie! When you go watch the movie, don’t think about the book, watch it as its own entity and what it portray. If you are religious of the Christian Faith, watch it with with an Open mind and a strong Faith. Remember that this movie is only entertainment purposes only which is based of a Fictional Novel and these are all fictional characters.

This movie makes you think! So if you like thinking, you will enjoy this movie. It also has some humor in it, but also importantly the soundtrack of the movie makes you feel every moment of it.

Overall Rating: 7/10

    Its a prequel btw…

anywhoo, the book fails. I mean I like the premise and all but frankly Brown is rather uncreative in terms of plot development and literary prowess. For starters, all his books follow the same exact pattern, and I find it more difficult to solve a Scooby Doo mystery than figure out who the main badguy is in his books. He really sticks to the same formula every time and it is rather sad. Also, I think I lost track of how many characters felt “a chill run down their spine”.

Thankfully, I heard the movie took some liberties with the plot and also I am quite sure that Brown’s skill as a writer has not affected screenplay. Glad it was good, but I think I will wait for the DVD rental on this mystery.
