Cheerios considered a Drug
Don’t let the title mislead you, as this could be true someday.
According to this article at MedicalNews Today the FDA has sent a warning to General Mills for their product Cheerios and its claims of helping you reduce cholesterol.
We’ve seen the commercial, we’ve seen the magazine ads, we’ve seen it even on the boxes! It has become second nature for us to know that Cheerios can reduce Cholesterol (the bad one) in which cases could help lower the risk of some heart disease in the future.
The FDA apparently don’t like that. The FDA stated that General Mills has a “misbranded product”. Basically it means that the claims by General Mills with their Cheerios are claims of a drug. Since General Mills does NOT have a license to sell drugs it has to find either a way to hide the fact that is a “drug” or has to rethink the whole brand completely and get a license to be able to sell “drug” products.
Now let’s be fair here. First of all is a FREAKING CEREAL. Second, if the cereal was a “Drug” it should have some kind of side-effect like: “Warning: May cause anal leakage…” and third, you don’t hear a doctor saying: “Yes please take 3 doses of Cheerios per day.” Maybe a nutritionist, but that’s not the case at hand.
So who knows what could happen next…Maybe their next commercial is: “Buy Cheerios Today! * By Prescription Only***”
So what’s next for the FDA to control? We can’t eat oranges because they contain Vitamin C, which helps our inmune system? Or how about DanActive? it also helps our immune system… Or Bananas because they have Magnesium and Potassium… I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
