In New York, a wire-haired dachshund passed away at the age of 21 (147 Dog Years). The dog died on Friday at the owner’s home in Long Island.

The dog’s name was Chanel and just like her name was her style. During her last years, she wore sweaters and tinted goggles due to her sensitiveness to the cold and her cataracts in her eyes.  She was a playful dog and she defied what veterinarians said about chocolate. Chocolate is toxic for dogs. However, from the owner’s mouth, Chanel apparently ate a bag full or Reese’s peanut butter cup, but yet she lived for 21 years. Was the peanut butter the key? (I’m just speculating here…) Nobody knows…

I had a dog that lived for 19 years (119 Dog Years). It was a Chow Chow and a mother of seven puppies. We gave her normal care, like most owners do. What was the secret? I don’t really know. Sorry!

Did you had a dog that lived for a long time? What do you think is the secret for the longevity of a dog’s life?
