Call of Duty: Executive Warfare

Call of Duty: Executive Warfare

Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 2, Activision, LegalThis just in, the next version of Call of Duty will be only about executives and legal battles. No longer will you be in the battlefield; instead, you will play directly on an office building in which you can get fired and make a lawsuit against a coworker or boss. You start out as a janitor, but you quickly work you way up (legally or illegally) to the executive position. However, would that be something you play?

It seems to me the creators of Call of Duty, Jason West and Vince Zampella,  are on this game right now. According to Yahoo! Games, the creators of Call of Duty — fired for alleged insubordination — filed a lawsuit against Activision and accused the gaming company for “astonishing arrogance and unbridled greed”. Damn, those are some strong words. However, it didn’t stopped there they continued by claiming that they were fired so that Activision wouldn’t have to pay royalties to the creators of the game. Jason and Vince are seeking $36 million in damages plus restoration of rights over Call of Duty.

You can read the entire article at Yahoo Games, but that is the sum of it.  Pretty Intense, right? Another corporate blunder. I think if they are the creators of this massive game that was by far  the highest grossing game last year and I think they did a pretty good job, so they should get that money and the rights over it. However, in the corporate world, you sign your life to the company, so they need to make sure they didn’t sign off the rights to the game.If they did, then is going to be an uphill battle to win this case. However, like every story, there are two sides for the matter. Are the actions of Activision justified? What do you think? Which side are you on?
