It’s Kind of a Funny Story

It’s kind of a funny story… it is actually kind of an inspiring story as well. I just had the pleasure to watch the movie “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” starring Keir Gilchrist, Emma Roberts, and Zach Galifianakis of a depressed teenager who checks himself in an adult psychiatric ward.

The story follows the life of Craig, a troubled teenager that contemplates the thoughts of committing suicide. He lives a normal life with a few stress problems here and there. Not knowing how to cope with things and handle them he gets depressed and begins having these suicidal thoughts. Before he does anything drastic, he checks himself into a psychiatric ward. He thought this was the solution, but he was not expecting the experience to be like he intended it to be. During his visit he gets involved in the lives of others that are staying there, without knowing that there might have been a lesson from all of it.

I may have spoiled the movie a little bit, but I think you’ll be fine if you still decide to go see the movie. The movie has not be received well by critics, but to my opinion the critics were wrong. This movie captures your attention to the story because you can find a way to relate to it. Be warned, though, this is not a movie for everyone. Some might like it (like me) and some might hate it. However, the one thing to keep in mind is to listen to the story and listen to what the movie is about.

Seeing the movie makes you think about others and about your own life. Sometimes we hear people complain about their daily lives and how they just can’t cope with anything. They feel as if the world is against them and that there is no hope because they can’t handle the situation. This is when we forget the basic steps that we need to do to handle everything: Breathe and Live.

Here is a clip from the movie for when you are “Under Pressure”:
