Life in a Day

Have you ever stopped to think: how would it be the day for someone else in the world? Life in a Day captures this moment.  The film, directed by oscar winning Kevin Macdonald, gathered over 4,500 hours of footage from over 80,000 people for this experimental day of capturing the life of earth in just 24 hours. All in a 90 minute time frame.

The experiment began on July 24, 2010, where the director asked the YouTube community to record what they do that day and submit their videos. The selected filmmakers would get a pass to the Sundance Film Festival to view the finished film, which premiered January 27,2011 and take a look at life on earth for a day.

At the beginning of the movie, I was a bit skeptical. The YouTube community is known for having countless of insignificant videos around the web that somehow, the more stupid your video is, the higher are the chances of you to get a viral video. However, with this movie this was not the case. In turn, the movie showed a complete shocking and inspiring footage on how people go about their normal life in just one day.  The movie just played around with your emotions. You would laugh at some points, want to cry on others, and sometimes scared of what was going to happen next. Another amazing element of this movie was the music. The music completely defined the movie and mixed up your emotions with the footage on screen.

However, the last line of the movie is what gave this experiment such an inspiring  turn.

After the premier, the director and filmmakers  participated on an interactive live QA. Many questions were raised about some of the very graphical elements that occurred in the movie. From the slaughtering of a cow to the death of a couple of people at an event called the “Love Parade”, that created some of the more dramatic parts of this movie. He also mentioned the possibility of making a sequel to find out how these people are doing in their life one year later.

The movie will be released for everybody around the world on July 24, 2011.

Here’s a teaser:

Did you had the chance to see this movie? If so, let me know your thoughts.

Look this maybe inspiring and all but come on. You wanna have life in a day, go and LIVE…geesh…everyone is soo focused on seeing what others do they forget to live thier own lives. Example Facebook maniacs and Tweeter junkies. Yes I dont deny the networking and positive things that can get accomplished by this sites, but really what do you do with yours? Is it much harder now to talk than to text? Ohh but look at me using internet and a blog site to rant about stuff…well all I can say is…everybody is doing it….LOL Nah looks like a good movie, marking it for later watching.

I have to disagree with you as this movie is what many of us should see! We always are wondering when something goes wrong: “Why? Why? me? i bet others don’t have to suffer like i do…” This movie shows that you may not be the only one having a crappy day, or something. It teaches you that a day can be what you make of it.

Well I have to reply to your reply by saying that not everyone suffers the same, your hell could be different from mine. Sounded dramatic but my point is we are not living the same life and what afect us as individuals may not transend to other in the same maner. There for, life is about living not just watching.

exactly, but society doesn’t understand that. You seem to understand that the hell that you suffer can be different from another’s person. However, many of us do suffer from thinking that all the bad things just happen to us, when is completely wrong. And I agree with you Life is about living and not just watching, and that is one of the points that the movie tries to point out. By teaching us that we can turn our day into anything we want.

Amen brother, life is what you make out of it not what it turns to be. I heard a saying once a long ago, “Every person is a world, be the god of yours”
