Yes yes..If it wasn’t for the Alice in Wonderland from like 1951 there would be no recent Alice In Wonderland sequel. Oh yeah I went there.

Any who! The movie was mostly about a little girl named Alice who well, Curiosity killed the cat right? Well all poor little Alice is trying to do is find her way back home and finds herself in a strange world with well…crazy people and…um..things.

Who remembers the crazy characters eh eh?? Well the one character that annoyed me soo much in the movie when I was a kid was that darn cat named “The Cheshire Cat” ;Yes even his name sounds annoying. None the less he kept on getting me mad because he kept on asking questions about her questions. I mean really? JUST TELL THE GIRL WHERE TO GO!! lol. Here’s the clip..Enjoy the memories :p.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4fHre-yRPY

Afar from the fact that the Cheshire Cat he was annoying, he was a very interesting character and probably the best one out of all of the characters in the movie. He also made the movie rather more interesting because of him being rather annoying. I just have one song to sing to you guys, curtosy of the Cheshire Cat “Twas brillig, and the slithy toves, did gyre and gimble in the wabe. All mimsy were the borogoves, and the momeraths outgrabe”

None the less in the end they find a coach for the team in the end.

This movie I’ve always liked because it shows kids to not go into the neighbors house to steal a baseball.

The funny part in this movie was when the kid in order to get a kiss from the life guard. Wendy Pepercorn, he had to drown in order for her to save him. When I look at it now it makes me think wow he must’ve been desperate lol. It’s even funnier how these kids are trying to look all hot for the older women, now that is hilarious! Anyway here’s the clip.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr5lHZQz-Z4

I would like for you to give it up for these kids who tried to play it off jus to get what they wanted lol..

I am not a ‘trekkie’, but I can appreciate a flippin’ awesome movie when I see it. I won’t go into spoilers or plot points. I am not evil like that. But I will say this… anyone can go to this movie and appreciate it. Anyone. From die hard trekkies to complete newbies like myself. The movie is visually stunning and the plot is comical and gripping.

I know I am critiquing it based off of no prior knowledge of the franchise. But I did get the input of someone coming out of the theater. She said it was amazing but at some moments it had her cringing. She said she wasn’t a Trek Canonista Diehard (which I had to come home and research)… but I think the fact that she even knew what that was means she is hardcore about it. In fact I know she was hardcore… because she parked next to me and she had a star fleet license plate… which she went and gave a thumbs up to before she hopped into her own personal Enterprise (A Honda CR-V).

So in my own humble opinion go see this movie. I rate it a 9 out of 10.

Tomorrow, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button will be released for the first time on DVD. It has already been chosen for the Criterion Collection. It does not deserve it.

Now this is not by any means a horrible film nor even a bad one. It is just flawed enough so that it is not effective as a story. Before I tell you what I did not like about this film, I would like to celebrate its achievments.

The cinematography is beautiful. The film is filled with well-composed shots and beautiful colors and was a genuine treat to see on the big screen. I am sure the blu-ray transfer (also on Criterion) will be worth viewing.

The special-effects in the film are also something to be celebrated. The reverse aging of the Benjamin Button character is fully and utterly convincing. As I understand it, Brad Pitt’s face was digitally composited on the body of other actors and it really works. I am no expert in special effects but I have been led to believe that the mastery of this technique could have a huge impact on the future of film.

These strengths are more than enough of a reason for you to watch the movie but that still does not mean that it deserves a Criterion release. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is not a great film. It is flawed in that it attempts to represent the human condition through the biography of a single character. The character, Benjamin Button, is never fully defined. We watch his entire life and never get a sense of who he is as a person. At the end of the movie I did not know if he was good or bad, smart or dumb, even interesting or boring. It should not be possible to watch an entire 2.5+ hour movie and have no opinion on the humanity of the main character at the end. For this reason, the entire film falls flat and remains a good movie made by great talents.

The audio commentary: the greatest love of many a modern film enthusiast. How we appreciate these glorious guided tours into the making of our favorite films! Many times we are treated to fascinating creation stories from writers, horrifying financial stories from producers, explanations from directors and even scene and method analysis from cinematographers, editors or score composers. After I finish a great film (and often even a horrible film) I nearly always click back to the special features, select ‘feature-length commentary’ and push ‘play’ again. Today, often just as fascinating as film commentaries are television commentaries. There are times though that these very commentaries that I love are nearly destroyed by one fatal error: the actors should never be invited!

Almost every time an actor appears on an audio commentary, they fill up the audio track with such inane chatter that the great work put forth by the rest of the crew is unmistakably and irreversibly degraded. I have a theory as to why this phenomenon occurs: all actors are idiots. I’m just kidding (sort of). The fact is though that the actors have one job to do in a film and that is performing in it. Outside of this cursory (albeit rather important) task, they tend to know absolutely nothing about the films’ construction. The other problem with actors on audio commentaries is quite obvious: most actors like to be the center of attention. This causes them to speak more loudly and frequently on the commentary than the people who actually matter.

One television DVD set seems to have remedied this problem… Freaks & Geeks includes multiple commentaries on every episode: one done from a technical standpoint and one done by the actors. This solves everyone’s problems because the actors are still able to pretend that they are important and the viewer (or listener) who actually cares about film can ignore them. I, for one, hope that other DVD producers follow this method and save the audio commentary from a fate worse than death: irrelevance.
